Counseling Offices
High School/Middle School
Dear Parents/Guardians:
If your child(ren) qualifies for free or reduced lunch, they also qualify for the Project Backpack program. This program gives your child(ren) a bag of lunch to take home on the last day of school of the week. The food is meant to help supplement the nutritious food and snacks you are already providing for them over the weekend.
Project Backpack works with your student's counselor/teacher to ensure that this program is confidential. Project Backpack helps students at 10 schools in five area school districts. Each school has its own way of delivering food to students, but we have been assured that students will not be publicly identified as participating in this program.
Project Backpack needs your permission for your child(ren) to participate. Please complete the form for each child in your household. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have about the program.
Disclaimer Regarding Food Allergies: Please note: If your child has a food allergy, it is your responsibility to examine donated food to make sure it is safe for your child to eat. In a program of this size, we cannot test all food products for potential allergens. If you have any concerns regarding this, it may be best for your child not to participate or for you to be present on distribution days to check the bag before you go home.
Note to parents: As part of the program, you can redeem a voucher for a free loaf of bread and a half gallon of milk each week. Vouchers are included in backpacks each week.
Carefully,
